Roughly 50 automobiles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.
Law enforcement state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued liquid.
The liquid had been placed in the form of a swastika, they added.
Law enforcement then discovered many other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials say preliminary tests indicate the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no lead as to its source; authorities are not yet cognizant of any harm in association with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives announced they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the community for details.
A high-ranking political figure stated the incident made him without words and had to be resolved rapidly.
"This event affects the core of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing attack five years ago," he posted on online, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
