19 of the Russian's twenty-one titles have been won on hard courts

A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his initial championship for nearly 30 months with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has endured a challenging season, achieving just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a setback at the New York tournament.

His inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in particular - led to him dropping out of the elite rankings and ultimately parting ways with former mentor Cervara.

Now working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently advanced in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought competitive win over Frenchman Moutet.

It is Medvedev's maiden trophy after the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hardcourt since spring of the previous year.

The win also means the Russian has won 21 championships at twenty-one distinct events.

"For the first time I have attended a tournament with my two daughters together, so to get a championship is especially meaningful," said world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my child my daughter, because the first title I got when my older daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had lost his past six finals, featuring in the German tournament in the past months.

His defensive play style and recurring reactions on the tennis court had prompted observers to doubt if his ability to perform at the highest level was concluded.

But the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and perform assertively, backed up by an better serving game.

The champion came back from a break down in the initial set against the difficult Moutet, taking 4 of the concluding five points to go ahead.

The competitors swapped service breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, attempting for his first tour victory, seized the initiative to push for a final set.

Moutet defended 4 early-game chances in a tight third set before Medvedev secured a break to 15 to secure the win.

Suitably, the winner earned the title with a shot at the net area, with Moutet failing to manage a return after over two and a half hours.
